Harvest season is one often ignored in an increasingly holiday-obsessed society.
Twinkly lights are being wrapped around bar carts nationwide. The Target birds have switched out their scarves for Santa hats. Christmas songs are already filling pharmacy aisles with pop-ified nostalgia (it’s always Sia’s “Snowman,” but never Justin Bieber’s “Drummer Boy”).
And I get it. We have so very little to hold on to this time of year. But the crops finally budding from months of growing underground is one of the greatest parts, while many of us are too blinded by the tinsel to notice. Perhaps most importantly to this audience, it’s also cannabis harvest season: when buds are plucked, dried, and prepared for the rest of the year’s enjoyment.
So, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite pieces reflective of these hiberatory months before the full descent of gift guide season.
Ficus Ceramica Blue “Gem” Corn Pipe $$$
As a Pennsylvania native, I always admired the dried bundles of multicolored corn (which I used to call something else, but I’m realizing in real time is likely not best to repeat) on trips to the orchard. As I would grab my signature root beer-flavored honey stick by the register inside, I ogled the whimsical — if functionless — crop until my mom let me snag one to hang on our stairs’ railing and watch as its husk fell off and its kernels shriveled in time for Christmas.
Ficus Ceramica has recaptured this a-maize-ment in the form of paraphernalia: carving a hyper-realistic ear of corn into a classic steamroller shape, thanks to the artist’s process of creating molds from real produce. If you’re looking for a smaller hit but still want to celebrate nature’s bounty, I’m partial to the baby pumpkin pipe seasonal specialty.
Wasted Water Pipes Autumn Bong $$$
Wasted Water Pipes is a part of the practice popularized by Functional China: selling bongs converted from vintage glassware. Some, though, are more successful in the endeavor of sourcing whimsical pieces than others, which is where Wasted comes in.
With a site full of inventive glass options like a goose, a kitten, or a vase unique to your star sign, this pumpkin feels right at home in the Martha Stewart collection. Its super bulbous base and included straw makes for a perfectly sippable, shareable sesh.
Sackville x Carrots Carrot Grinder $$
Sackville & Co. is best known for its grinders, my favorite up to this point being the Big Apple. Now comes a new take on the edible-inspired accessory: a carrot. Created in collaboration with — you guessed it — Carrots, this two-tiered piece won’t allow you to collect kief overtime, but, honestly, you probably won’t miss it too often.
A24 Talk to Me Party Hand $$$
This is what we’re here for, folks. If you’re anything like me, you’ve spent a sizable chunk of your life since 2017 browsing, and occasionally purchasing, A24 merch. The production company’s latest endeavor into the horror space was Talk to Me: an Australian-set paranormal tale of teenage possession through a party game with the cast of a dead psychic’s hand. Unsurprisingly, a real-life replica of the hand was a part of the merch drop. What I didn’t expect, though, was for it to be a pipe.
Created by Craighill, the minds behind the iconic Marcel the Shell figurine, the Talk to Me Party Hand has a bowl on the palm and mouthpiece on the fingertip, letting your guests get high with your sacred hand instead of using it to confront their grief over their dead mother; might keep things a bit lighter.
Molly Smiles Crochet Flower Glass Mat $
I first became familiar with Molly Smiles through the personalized grinder she created for HI. Women’s Cannabis Collective I found rolling around my car one night (turns out the founder accidentally left it after setting up for an event). It pained me to return it, so I looked around her shop to see what other inventive, often bedazzled, wares were in store.
My favorite, though, (besides the highly inventive elastic bong bat wings) is this granny-square inspired crochet glass mat: a soft, non-slip surface for your bong to sit on the table without any scuffs or water rings. Plus, it’s sure to keep your pieces cozy: if you’re cold, they’re cold.
Edie Parker Flower Jello Tabletop Lighter $$$$
Day ones might remember Edie Parker’s line of cake-themed table lighters mentioned in the first edition (!) of Puff Pieces. Now, the fashion-rooted cannaccessory brand has done another dessert-y twist on their signature, this time perfect for a Midwestern Thanksgiving spread: jello.
These comically oversized coffee table fixtures also feature a hidden ashtray, a wonderful entry into my never-ending search for the perfect covered option, and are available in a variety of fruit flavors to fit any decor.
