Puff Pieces #002
Puff Pieces is a once-monthly round-up of the hottest drops in pot. This month, we're exploring what the cannabis accessories landscape had to offer in March 2023.
Big Bell Ceramics - Stovetop Pipe
Big Bell Ceramics is art after my own heart. They serve a collection of quirky, funny, sometimes barely functional ceramics that emphasize the whimsy in weed above all. The Stovetop Pipe is artist Josh Zucker’s take on the Moka Pot — a fancy-person-kitchen staple that I try and fail to brew good espresso with nearly every morning.
Frankly, we don’t have much detail on this piece's functionality, though I’d imagine you hit it like a massive bowl with your mouth resting on top. Personally, I would reserve this one for your growing collection of novelty bongs (What? Just me?) to bring a little joy to every corner of your home.
You can find the Stovetop Pipe for $80 on the Big Bell Ceramics site.
La Ganja Estranja x Empire Glassworks
The Drag Race-certified superstar and stoner extraordinaire La Ganja Estranja has partnered with glass masterminds Empire Glassworks (the name behind some of my favorite bowl pieces) to bring you a bong to complement the Queen’s brand refresh.
Estranja’s aesthetic is clearly Versace-inspired, with a Greek key design wrapping around the neck, base, and bowl and a claw-adorned pinching hand logo embossed on the bottom of the base. Though “Estranja” on the downstem is an obviously branded touch, I personally think the iconography is subtle enough that if you’re into the look, it’ll shine whether you’re a fan or not.
Though some argue that Drag Race peaked in season 9 (me), the show’s legacy lives on in the weed community especially — with La Ganja Estranja living among other alumnae like Shea Coulee and Sasha Colby who have also entered the space.
The La Ganja Estranja “water pipe” is available on Empire Smokes for $105.
Houseplant Side Car Ashtray by Seth
They’re back at it again. Houseplant seems to be constantly reinventing its classic ashtray shape (there’s an even newer, concrete version available as I write this), but this time? There’s room for a sidekick.
I’ve certainly run into the issue of ugly lighters with bottoms covered in tar messing up the aesthetic of your ashtray, but my solution thus far has been to cover them in cute and largely impractical cases. But Seth has another solution, and that’s a slot to drop your lighter right beside your ash receptacle. Also styled as a slot for extra joint storage, this is the most practical version of the set yet. And, at a $68 price point, it’s also the cheapest.
You can find the Houseplant Side Car Ashtray on the Houseplant website.
Jade Plant Bowls from Carla Camasso
I first spotted these potted jade plant pipes by Gnarla Carla, otherwise known as Asheville-based glass artist Carla Camasso, on Instagram in a post from my favorite cannacessories boutique, Garden Party — a one-stop shop for things to make life more delightful whether you smoke or not.
These handmade little friends are supremely detailed (the red-tinted leaves? The SOIL??) and seem sturdy enough to actually use if you want to — though I’d certainly understand if it becomes your newest desk accessory. Plus, they’re constructed to give you a good, direct hit — not a massive, dry one like some other novelty pieces (no matter how cool they look). Though the succulent theme isn’t uncommon in smokeware, I think these certainly are.
You can find the Jade Plant Bowls on Garden Party’s site for $250 in blue, teal, and pink.
Bong Candles
I’m cheating here a bit, since this doubly functional piece actually dropped in January, but the Bong Candle has delighted me since the moment I set my eyes on it. For those of you who remember my candle-making phase, you’ll know there are few things I love more than a novelty vessel. Better yet, there are few novelty vessels that I love more than a bong.
While the concept alone is cute enough to sell me, once the wax fully melts, you’re left with a fully functional piece (the downstem and bowl piece are sold separately on their site). The scent range currently includes Crossfade – a leathery, whiskey, woodsy option; Tangerine Dream with notes of the citrus fruit, mint, and vanilla; and Pot Brownie evoking chocolate, hazelnut, and cream.
Though a $65 candle may seem a bit steep (though I’ve certainly come close), this one is filled with a whopping 18 ounces of wax, meaning it will burn for over a hundred hours.
You can find the Bong Candle exclusively on their site.
